The Oak Park Public Library seeks a part-time Library Assistant to join the Teen Services team.

The Teen Services Assistant actively maintains a safe, secure, and pleasant environment for library patrons and staff through engaging and assisting teen patrons and through the enforcement of policies and procedures while keeping in mind the library’s objectives for access and equitable treatment for everyone. Regular evening and occasional weekend hours are expected.


Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Adheres to library policies and proactively enforces the Teen Space Agreement and A Library for Everyone policy
  • Circulates and provides general supervision throughout the Teen Services area
  • Engages with teen patrons and staff in a positive, effective manner
  • Reports any suspicious activity to the library’s Public Safety Team
  • Proactively works to prevent problem situations
  • Seeks opportunities to develop skills and knowledge related to the service area and shares knowledge and new skills with colleagues
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Organizational Alignment: Understands, supports, and advances the vision, mission, and strategic priorities of the library
  • Community Engagement: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of patrons and staff throughout the library and outside the organization
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Supports a positive team environment in which members participate, respect and cooperate with each other to receive desired results
  • Adaptability: Demonstrates willingness to accept shift in responsibilities due to the nature of a changing workplace
  • Initiative: Takes initiative in improving service, processes, programs and products
  • Accountability: Be knowledgeable about library resources, services, and impact
  • Accuracy: Pays attention to detail
  • Integrity: Demonstrates the capacity to maintain confidentiality


Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or the equivalent 
  • Two (2) or more years of work experience with teens


Details

This part-time position reports to the Manager of Teen Services. The position is 15+ (maximum of 19) hours per week with expectations for regular evening and some weekend availability.


Starting hourly rate range: $18.00 to $20.00, depending on qualifications, and includes some paid time off, learning and development opportunities, and other benefits. The position is scheduled to start by April 2022. Please apply by Tuesday, March 15, to be considered for this position.
