Office Assistant - Shelter Medicine

The Shelter Medicine Office Assistant is responsible for the documentation of medical information in our electronic medical record (EMR) database of PAWS cats and dogs. The Assistant will provide information and technical support to the Shelter Medicine team to assist in ensuring high quality medical care while getting animals to adoptions sooner. This position works closely with the Shelter Medicine and Clinic departments.

Duties and Responsibilities. Responsible for ensuring medical records are maintained and processes are being followed appropriately. Utilizes EMR to determine when animals require examinations, vaccinations and other procedures.

Generates appropriate paperwork for these items for Shelter Medicine Veterinarians and Technicians. Enters treatments, vaccines, laboratory test results, and exam notes into EMR accurately and with attention to detail. Schedules surgical procedures for shelter animals and generates necessary paperwork for the Clinic department.

Assists the Animal Operations Manager in ensuring the medical needs of the shelter animals are being addressed proactively and in accordance with shelter medicine best practices and established PAWS protocols. Keeps files organized and ensures things are filed properly. * Provide technical and administrative support for other departments as needed and as assigned by management.

Requirements Knowledge of basic medical care, diseases, treatment and medications of dogs and cats or willingness to learn Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Excellent organization and time management skills Attention to detail and ability to learn quickly Excellent written and oral communications Ability to work well with a team in a fast-paced environment
